Alliance Data associates solve problems, innovate at Shark Tank event

While participants weren’t met with a business proposition at the end, 105 associates had the chance to showcase their skills and innovative ideas at Alliance Data’s first “Shark Tank” event in November.

With a format similar to the popular television show Shark Tank, associates from across the business participated in a virtual, two-day pitch event to generate ideas that could make a positive impact on Alliance Data’s customers, partners and business. Teams of up to six associates worked cross-functionally to research, form an idea and create a proof of concept or design flow that was presented to Alliance Data’s own panel of “sharks” for judging.

From automation improvements to cryptocurrency and customer budgeting tools, pitches were judged based on criteria that included fit and business value, concept validation and research, overall presentation and creativity. In addition to receiving a cash prize, winning ideas are being further reviewed by business leaders to determine opportunities for investment.

“I am so proud of the work that the teams put in and the passion for improving the experience for our customers, partners, and associates,” said Val Greer, EVP and chief commercial officer. “While the judges selected two winning teams, a number of concepts from this event will be incubated as part of our innovation practice.”
